What Tucson is...

Tucson is a culture all it's own. It's very unique way to live.

There is a lot of history in Tucson. In 1692, Tucson was visted by the Spanish Jesuit missionary, Eusebio Francisco Kino. In 1700, he founded San Xavier del Bac Mission. in 1775, a "presidio", or fort was established by the Spanish. The name of it is Tucson. After Mexico became independent from Spain in 1821, Tucson became part of Mexico. In 1853, Tucson joined the United States New Mexico Territory, following the Gadsden Purchase. The Arizona Territory's capital was Tucson during the years of 1867 through 1889. Then on February 12th, 1912, Arizona became the 48th state.

Tucson is it's own environment. It's amazing weather is known from coast to coast. The city is located in the one place of the United States that gets the most sunshine, 86%! The air has a low relative humidity and is dry. Tucson is nestled in a valley where mountains as high as 9,000 feet, and more, surround it. Rich Sonora Desert plant life covers the ground. You can never get enough of Saguaro Cactuses.

Tucson has a magnificent wildlife. People come across deer, cougar, rabbits, scorpions, javelinas, bobcats, rattlesnakes, and lizards all the time. Bird watchers from all over flock to Southern Arizona. All kinds of bird species, such as ducks, swans, quail, grouse, egrets, herons, storks, vultures, cormorants, hawks, eagles, wrens, woodpeckers, falcons, mockingbirds, starlings, thrushes, warbles, finches, and cardinals have been recorded by the American Bird Committee. No one can ever forget the amazing colorful swarms of hummingbirds.

Tucson has a fascinating architectural history. Tucson is known for it's music. Some of the venues you want to visit are Tucson Boys Choir, Tucson Symphony Orchestra, Arizona Opera, Ballet Tucson, and Tucson Music Hall.

Tucson is unique art. You definitely want see the De Grazia Gallery in the Sun, Arizona State Museum, and Tucson Museum of Art.

Tucson is fine cuisine Mexican food is the main cuisine. Guadalajara Grill, El Minuto, Cosa Poca, El Charro Cafe, and Mi Nadito are exquisite Latin restaurants. You will always find something to good to eat whether it's Hacienda del Sol for a gourmet meal to Sonoran Hot Dog stand.
